Hardox® 500
Hardox® 500 is a highly abrasion-resistant steel that’s both bendable and weldable, with a nominal hardness of 500 HBW. Ideal for applications requiring superior wear resistance, Hardox® 500 enhances payload capacity and extends service life, all while retaining excellent processability and toughness.
Hardox® 500 Stockholder & Supplier
MTL Advanced Ltd is one of the largest Hardox® Weaparts Centre’s in the UK, and a Hardox® 500 stockholder/supplier to clients around the world who require high wear resistance material.
With various industry quality accreditations and many years’ experience working with this particular steel, we are able to manufacture and supply Hardox® 500 in various sizes and thicknesses to satisfy the needs of our customers.
Due to our extensive in-house manufacturing capabilities and stringent quality measures, we can also machine, press parts up to 7.2m length and waterjet cut Hardox® 500 to the UK’s highest standards.

Fabrication and other recommendations
Welding, bending and machining Recommendations can be found in SSAB’s brochures on www.hardox.com or consult Tech Support, techsupport@ssab.com.
Hardox® 500 and Hardox® 500 Tuf are not intended for further heat treatment. It has obtained its mechanical properties by quenching and when necessary by means of subsequent tempering. The properties of the delivery condition cannot be retained after exposure to temperatures in excess of 250ºC.
Appropriate health and safety precautions must be taken when welding, cutting, grinding or otherwise working on this product. Grinding, especially of primer coated plates, may produce dust with a high particle concentration.
What is Hardox® 500?
Hardox® 500 is an abrasion-resistant steel with a nominal hardness of 500 HBW, particularly suitable for applications that demand higher wear resistance.
It increases both payload and service life while maintaining good processability, with guaranteed toughness when specified.
