Welding/Fabrication Apprenticeships

We have a number of exciting job vacancies here at MTLA, and we are currently seeking to recruit dynamic and enthusiastic individuals for the following positions:

Press brake Operator (x2)

Responsibilities

  • Operating press brake machine, ensuring it runs continuously to ensure maximum productivity
  • Producing orders on time and to the correct quality standard
  • Maneuvering of materials on to and off the press machines, either by crane or manually
  • Setting up the machine by reading engineering drawings, programming, tooling changes
  • Marking up of pressed parts and packing

Knowledge, Skills, Experience

  • Must have previous experience operating a press brake machine
  • Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of different metals an advantage.
  • Competent in the use of all forms of measuring equipment including verniers, rulers, angle measuring devices
  • Able to set and maintain a high standard of workmanship
  • Able to work pro-actively and as part of a team to improve productivity and efficiency

Hours of work:  Shift rotation of 6am-2pm, 2pm – 10pm, 10pm – 6am. 37.5 hours per week

Welder/Fabricator (x3)

Responsibilities

  • To review engineering drawings for parts to be fabricated/welded.
  • Perform welding/plating activities.
  • Ensure tolerances and parameters are met to satisfy quality and output.
  • Ensure production timings are met/exceeded.
  • Follow company rules and adhere to procedures & Health and Safety standards.
  • Work as part of a team to produce orders on time and within customer expectation/quality requirements.
  • Carry out and record daily/weekly/monthly maintenance and safety checks.
  • Ensure correct marking up of component parts.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience

  • Welding / Fabrication Experience Must be coded to BS EN ISO9606-1 fillet and butt weld standard
  • Experienced in MIG and TIG welding with the ability to read engineering drawings
  • Ability to work effectively and use own initiative
  • Good communicator at all levels
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation

Hours of work: 

Shift rotation of 6am-2pm Monday – Friday  8pm – 6am Monday – Wednesday and 8:30pm –  6am Thursday

CNC Miller

Responsibilities

  • Operating machines to produce orders on time and to the correct quality standard
  • Ensure correct marking up of component parts and use of the labeling system
  • Work with Senior Manufacturing Engineer to determine feasibility of machining new products
  • Writing and providing programmes for all machines as required
  • Maintaining and control a current programmer register and tool inventory
  • Working with jigs and fixtures
  • Cleaning and maintaining machines as required

Knowledge, Skills, Experience

  • Must have previous experience setting, operating and programming vertical machining centers using Fanuc controls
  • A minimum of 5 years’ post qualification experience in a technical machining background
  • Slinging and lifting crane experience is essential
  • Able to set and maintain a high standard of workmanship
  • Able to work pro-actively and as part of a team to improve productivity and efficiency

Hours of work: Shift rotation of 6am-2pm, 2pm- 10pm and 10pm-6am. 37.5 hours per week

Laser Operator

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring material is checked for size, thickness and grade, prior to cutting and to inform the Team Leader of any quality concerns regarding the material.
  • Ensure ‘One offs’ are completed at all times.
  • Responsible for quality of components that have been cut on the machine and standard of fettling if required.
  • Ensure customer orders on produced ‘On Time and In Full time to required quality standard.
  • Marking up of cut parts, cleaning and fettling parts.
  • Assisting colleagues on shift, e.g. trainees, apprentices etc.
  • Ensure all Safety / Rules / Standards are adhered to, ensuring correct Personal Protective Equipment is worn at all times.
  • All control cards and nestings are filled in correctly, taking note of any special instructions.
  • All machine and personal safety procedures to be followed at all times
  • Pass on all relevant information to the next shift, who are about to start work
  • Ensure the parts are routed correctly to the next part of the process in a timely manner
  • To adhere to all health and safety
  • Any other ad hoc duties

Knowledge, Skills, Experience

  • Relevant machine experience
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation and additional MTL requirements
  • Understanding of Company quality procedures and specific customer requirements
  • Ability to work effectively and use own initiative
  • Slinging and lifting crane experience

Technical Estimator

Responsibilities

  • Working from Customer drawings to produce detailed quotations.
  • Producing accurate and detailed manufacturing cost estimates generated from detailed client manufacturing drawings.
  • Responsible for monitoring and managing delivery lead times and the arrangement of sub contract support.
  • Create full routing information including labour and material costing.
  • Liaise with sub-contract suppliers as required.
  • Input all information into the computer system in order to produce full quotations to the sales department.
  • Monitoring enquiries within the company and speaking direct with customers and end users.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience

  • Previous experience within a Sales Estimator role, ideally in a sheet metal fabrication shop or metal profiling environment
  • Experience working on a variety of contracts and quoting from detailed engineering drawings.
  • Strong background in fabrication or metal profiling processes.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Quality Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Performing inspection of finished assemblies,
  • Taking Ownership of Defence and Rail Quality Performance,
  • Reviewing ISIR and FAIR reports prior to submission,
  • Being first point of contact for internal quality concerns,
  • Investigating Non-conformances, both internal and external and implement CAPA measures,
  • Compiling and submitting of PPAP documents as requested by customers,
  • Reporting internal process performance data weekly (CCIR Action Log)
  • Providing inspection support as required (Absence/ Workload)
  • Reviewing and approving concessions prior to submission to customers,
  • Conducting QHSE management audits
  • Conducting and leading 8D investigation reports issued by QHSEL Manager
  • Developing of process controls for specific processes
  • Generating Supplier Corrective Action Reports (SCAR’s) follow up to ensure effective CAPA are implemented

Knowledge, Skills, Experience

Essential:

  • Minimum HND / equivalent in a related Engineering of Quality related discipline
  • 3 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Ability to work efficiently and build effective working relationships
  • Performing internal audits Certification (ISO9001/ TS16949/ AS9100)
  • Eye for detail
  • Core Tools (AIAG) and RCA Qualification/ Experience

Desired:

  • Knowledge of Defence and/ or Rail requirements
  • Welding Inspection Qualification

Financial Accountant (Temporary)

Responsibilities

  • Manage general accounts office personnel to provide a professional and efficient service underpinning validity of ledgers, records, cash & banks and general internal control environment.
  • Lead monthly and annual closing processes to consistently achieve departmental deadlines. Ensure reliable, accurate and timely closings.
  • Manage Accounts Payable to ensure efficient processes and prompt settlement of vendor accounts.
  • Manage Accounts Receivable to ensure efficient processes and good link with Credit Control.
  • Manage Cash Books, daily bank reconciliation process and petty cash.
  • Ensure internal control environment is strong.
  • Ensure full balance sheet reconciliation on a monthly basis as part of closing routines.
  • Monthly standard and other journal entries, including accruals & prepayments.
  • Control Fixed Assets, plant registers, depreciation and capital expenditures, including monthly reporting.
  • Manage system to ensure intercompany balances are reconciled each month and settled promptly.
  • Ensure business meets its obligations relating to VAT, Intrastat and EC Sales reporting.
  • Ensure business meets its obligations relating to corporate and payroll taxes.
  • Involvement in Payroll function vis a vis timely and accurate payment of wages & salaries.
  • Ensure processing of payroll journals, reconciliation of all relevant control accounts and settlement of external payroll liabilities.
  • Completion and submission of P11D, PSA, Class 1ANIC and other benefit information.
  • Help to lead annual Audit process. Point of contact to auditors. Preparation of annual audit files. Input to preparation of annual Statutory Accounts.
  • Daily & monthly payment processing.
  • Various ad-hoc reports & returns to Office for National Statistics.
  • Ad hoc analysis and reporting, as required.

Material Handler

Responsibilities

  • Efficient unloading, handling and storage of internal material, e.g., steel, stainless steel, aluminium etc. to appropriate holding area
  • Ensuring correct storage inside with location of materials updated on computer
  • Sorting and feeding production with materials to production plans including assisting with maneuvering of materials on to and off the machines, either by crane or manually.
  • Housekeeping – ensuring the cleanliness and tidiness of the Departments and Profile Compound are maintained to a high standard at all times to comply with Health and Safety standards.
  • Maximise the uptime of the machines by delivering materials in a timely manner
  • Maintain accurate stock representation of the press racks

Knowledge, Skills, Experience

  • Fork Lift Truck B2 license, with oversize load experience carrying large pieces of sheet metal
  • Ability to work efficiently and build effective working relationships
  • Overhead crane / slinging & lifting skills
  • Experience in a similar role/environment

Press Brake Senior Team Leader

This is a frontline leadership role with full process ownership for the day to day running of the press shop. Ideally you will have worked your way up from the shop-floor and are currently a team leader or manager in a similar role. You’ll be skilled at people management, as you will managing a 20+ member team. You’ll need to be a highly organised individual, as well as being a technical expert in your field. You will be used to working to tight tolerances, be able to read technical engineering diagrams and be able to train less experienced members of your team to do the same.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that your team members are trained in using the relevant machines and equipment, reading drawings and procedures.
  • Assuming full ownership of your team, by creating and maintaining their commitment, loyalty and motivation.
  • Organising and obtaining maximum results from your team, through briefing, encouragement, counselling and disciplinary action where necessary.
  • Recognising training and development needs and liaising with the Production Manager regarding your teams further development.
  • Ensuring all Safety / Rules / Standards are adhered to, ensuring correct Personal Protective Equipment is worn at all times.
  • Ensuring the workshop and all its facilities: Are kept tidy and free from clutter at all times, operators are fulfilling their duties correctly and effectively at all times, parts are flowing to the next process with correct labelling procedures and “Schedule reports” are being followed and signed off each operation

  • Experience in press braking.

Paint Sprayer

Responsibilities

Working inside a spray bake facility, this role will be working as part of team shot blasting metal parts that meet customer’s specifications. Duties include:

  • Preparing work to extremely high standards
  • Working to specific production schedules
  • Completing all administrative procedures relating to paint area
  • Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe working environment
  • Adhering to COSHH and DSEAR regulations
  • Attending meetings as and when needed
  • Any other ad hoc duties as may be required within the production environment

Knowledge, Skills, Experience

  • Previous experience using conventional and pressure pot application equipment
  • Application, masking, prepping and polishing to a high standard
  • Experience of using 2 pack solvent and waterborne paint is essential
  • Be fully conversant in both written and verbal English
  • Able to read and understand engineering drawings and masking instructions
  • Ideally has a background in rail / aerospace / car finishing industry

Machine Operator

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare parts to be loaded into the machine
  • Ensure all orders are completed on time in full
  • Performing in process inspection of parts
  • Clean and complete the products as they come off the machine
  • Machine maintenance

Knowledge, Skills, Experience:  

  • Ability to read engineering drawings
  • Experience working on a CNC milling machine and use of fanuc controls (preferable)
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Ability to multi-task and with a high level of attention to detail
  • At least 2 years engineering experience
  • Ability to work well on own initiative
