We have a number of exciting job vacancies here at MTLA, and we are currently seeking to recruit dynamic and enthusiastic individuals for the following positions:

Skilled Welder

  • To review engineering drawings for parts to be fabricated/welded
  • Perform welding/plating activities
  • Ensure tolerances and parameters are met to satisfy quality and output
  • Ensure production timings are met/exceeded
  • Follow company rules and adhere to procedures & Health and Safety standards
  • Work as part of a team to produce orders on time and within customer expectation/quality requirements
  • Carry out and record daily/weekly/monthly maintenance and safety checks
  • Ensure correct marking up of component parts
  • Welding / Fabrication Experience Must be coded to BS EN ISO9606-1 fillet and butt weld standard
  • Experienced in MIG and TIG welding with the ability to read engineering drawings
  • Ability to work effectively and use own initiative
  • Good communicator at all levels
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation

Hours of work: Shift rotation of 6am-2pm Monday – Friday, 8pm-6am Monday – Wednesday and 8:30pm – 6am Thursday

Press Brake Operator

  • Operating press brake machine, ensuring it runs continuously to ensure maximum productivity
  • Producing orders on time and to the correct quality standard
  • Manoeuvring of materials on to and off the press machines, either by crane or manually
  • Setting up the machine by reading engineering drawings, programming, tooling changes
  • Marking up of pressed parts and packing
  • Must have previous experience operating a press brake machine
  • Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of different metals an advantage
  • Competent in the use of all forms of measuring equipment including verniers, rulers, angle measuring devices
  • Able to set and maintain a high standard of workmanship
  • Able to work pro-actively and as part of a team to improve productivity and efficiency

Hours of Work: Shift Rotation of 6am – 2pm, 2pm-10pm, 10pm-6am – 37.5 hours per week

CNC Miller

  • Writing and proving programs for all machines as required
  • Set up jobs on machines centrer’s
  • Work with jigs and fixtures
  • Machine parts to customer specification, record contract documentation, complete time sheets correctly and maintain high standard of workmanship
  • Ensure correct marking up of component parts and use of labelling system
  • Ensure parts are flowing to the next process with correct labelling procedures
  • Ensure that “Route Cards” are being followed and signed off following each operation
  • Work with Senior Manufacturing Engineer to determine feasibility of machining new products
  • Maintaining and controlling a current program register
  • Maintaining and controlling a current tool inventory, (all machines and cupboards)
  • Clean machines as appropriate
  • Continual check of coolant levels on machines
  • Knowledge of vertical machining centers
  • Knowledge of Fanuc
  • Ability to work efficiently and build effective working relationships
  • Able to program CNC machines
  • Overhead crane / slinging and lifting skills
  • Fork Lift Truck – Counterbalance License
  • Experience in a similar role/environment

Hours of work: 6am – 2pm, 2pm – 10pm, 10pm – 6am. 37.5 hours per week

Laser Operator

  • Ensuring material is checked for size, thickness and grade, prior to cutting and to inform the Team Leader of any quality concerns regarding the material
  • Ensure ‘One Offs’ are completed at all times
  • Responsible for quality of components that have been cut on the machine and standard of fettling if required
  • Ensure customer orders are produced ‘On time and In Full time’ to required quality standard
  • Marking up of cut parts, cleaning and fettling parts
  • Assisting colleagues on shift, e.g. trainees, apprentices etc.
  • Ensure all Safety / Rules / Standards are adhered to, ensuring correct Personal Protective Equipment is worn at all times
  • All control cards and nestings are filled in correctly, taking note of any special instructions
  • All machine and personal safety procedures to be followed at all times
  • Pass on all relevant information to the next shift, who are about to start work
  • Ensure the parts are routed correctly to the next part of the process in a timely manner
  • To adhere to all health and safety
  • Any other ad hoc duties
  • Relevant machine experience
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation and additional MTL requirements
  • Understanding of Company quality procedures and specific customer requirements
  • Ability to work effectively and use own initiative
  • Slinging and lifting crane experience

Shot Blast Operative


Working inside a blast room with underfloor recovery, this role will working as part of team shot blasting metal parts that meet customer’s specifications. Duties include:

  • Working to specific production schedules
  • Completing all administrative procedures relating to paint area
  • Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe working environment
  • Adhering to COSHH
  • Maintaining own equipment, change grit valve, check and change grit-hose, dead man’s handle and nozzle etc.
  • Attending meetings as and when needed
  • Any other ad hoc duties as may be required within the production environment
  • Previous, current experience as a shot blaster
  • Valid Fork Lift Truck License
  • Fully conversant in both written and verbal English
  • Lifting and Slinging safe working knowledge / certificate

Hours of Work: 37.5 Hours per week – 3 Shift Rotation – 6:00am – 2:00pm / 2:00pm – 10:00pm / 10:00pm – 6:00am

The main part of the role is planning but it is anticipated that Estimating will be approximately 25% to 50% of the full time role.

Estimating Responsibilities
  • Working from Customer drawings to produce detailed quotations
  • Producing accurate and detailed manufacturing cost estimates generated from detailed client manufacturing drawings
  • Liaising with the production team and assist in monitoring and managing delivery lead times and the arrangement of sub contract support
  • Creating full routing information including labour and material costing
  • Liaise with sub-contract suppliers as required
  • Inputting all information in to the computer system in order to produce full quotations to the sales department
  • Monitoring your own enquiries within the company and speaking direct with customers and end users
  • Liaising with internal departments and customers to resolve queries and expedite progress
Planning Responsibilities
  • Reviewing customer order requirements against quotation
  • Breaking down engineering drawings to produce a bill of materials
  • Creating 2D DXF cutting files for use in our thermal cutting processes
  • Inputting manufacturing information into our operating system to generate route cards
  • Generating process manufacturing drawings
  • Issuing route cards and manufacturing drawings to production & scheduling
  • Raising purchase order requisitions
  • Liaising with internal departments and customers to resolve queries
