Our core mission is to provide specialist engineering and contract manufacturing services utilising our unique capabilities to add value to our clients’ supply chains. As part of one of Europe’s largest fabrication and contract engineering groups, we operate from our Rotherham-based Head Office and primary manufacturing facilities, boasting 388,000 sq. ft. of factory space set in 13 hectares of private land.
MTL Advanced process in excess of 25,000 tonnes of material annually, handling all sizes and types of work in a wide array of materials including carbon steel, aluminum, stainless steel, high strength steel, weathering steel, armoured steel to name but a few. We offer exceptional customer service with industry leading quality metrics and On-Time-In-Full delivery performance better than 98%. We collaborate with our customers through our design for manufacture service to improve product design and provide cost reduction proposals. Our state-of-the-art facilities offer a turn-key capability to our customers from design support to volume manufacture. Our manufacturing footprint along with the latest automation allows us to manage high volume production for our customers.
Large-Scale Laser Cutting, Press Braking, and Precision Engineering
We can easily laser cut 14m long x 3.3m wide parts with bevels and can form complex components with up to 0.5 degrees of accuracy using the world’s largest robotic press brake. Our continued investment in the latest CNC machining equipment enables parts to be processed to meet customer quality and delivery requirements.
We provide coded welding and fabrication services in our 150,600 sq. ft fabrication space with 17 x modern robotic welding systems. Our customers, spread across the globe, rely on us for our expertise and knowledge of specialist materials such as wear-resistant steels, high-strength steels, and armour plate-manufactured components and fabrications.
Materials
We hold a vast range of stock plate material in-house, whether it be for meeting a ballistic threat level specification to relining a bucket from Hardox® plate.
Our relationship with the major steel mills in both Europe and the USA allows us to respond quickly to our customers’ requirements using some of the best materials on the market.
As the largest Hardox® Wearparts Centre in the UK, we have a wealth of experience in manufacturing parts from abrasive resistant and high-strength steels, working on even the most demanding applications.

Design for Manufacture
Our Design for Manufacture team has over 25 years’ experience utilising the latest design and simulation software, which can accommodate Catia, Solidworks, Inventor etc.
The service allows us to provide customers in a range of industries with the fast turnaround they they require. Since launching the DFM service, it has improved functionality and manufacturability as well as providing significant cost savings for customers.
Robotic Automation
Ongoing investment in state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment and automation technologies is key to our success. We currently operate four 640-tonne CNC press brakes, one of which is equipped with a robotic handling system that can handle parts up to 600 kg and press materials up to 60mm thick. In addition, we have nine robotic welding cells, further enhancing our production capabilities.
This ensures outstanding repeatability, speed, and precision in our welding and fabrication operations. This advanced setup allows MTL to maintain high production volumes while adhering to the highest quality standards. As part of a recent £10m investment in a new 68,000sq ft Advanced Manufacturing Centre, MTL also recently installed a state-of-the-art fully automated welding line for high volume and complex high strength steel structures.
