Opening Our Doors to Future Apprentices

Opening Our Doors to Future Apprentices

Last week, we held two successful open evenings at MTL Training Academy, welcoming prospective apprentices and their families through our doors on Monday and Wednesday. The events were a fantastic opportunity to showcase our facilities, introduce our team and give attendees a clear understanding of what a future in engineering could look like.

Throughout the evenings, visitors were taken on guided tours of our Rotherham-based training facility. They were able to see our workshops in action, explore the equipment used for hands-on learning and gain a real sense of the professional environment in which our apprentices train every day. Seeing the facilities first-hand helped bring the apprenticeship experience to life.

One of the most valuable aspects of the evenings was the opportunity to speak directly with our current apprentices. They shared their experiences, discussed their day-to-day training and explained how they are progressing through their qualifications. These conversations provided honest insight into what it takes to succeed and the long-term career opportunities available once the programme is completed.

We also delivered detailed presentations outlining our four-year apprenticeship programmes, entry requirements and the support structure in place to help every apprentice thrive. Since opening our doors in 2015, our goal has been to provide local individuals with the skills, knowledge and confidence required to build successful careers in engineering and business support roles.

We offer a wide range of apprenticeships including Welding and Fabrication, Laser and Press Brake Operations, Quality, CNC Machining and Business Administration, among others. Training is delivered to the highest standards, led by our Group Training and Development Manager who is a CSWIP certified Welder Instructor and Examiner. This ensures our apprentices are trained to internationally recognised standards from the very beginning of their careers.

The strong turnout across both evenings and the positive feedback received reinforced the growing demand for high-quality engineering apprenticeships. Applications are now open for a September 2026 start, and we encourage anyone interested in joining us to apply online.
