MTL Apprentices Help Bring Butterfly Campaign to Life

This week, the Meadow of Memories began to take shape as 2,000 Corten steel butterflies, handcrafted by MTL’s Advanced Apprentices, were installed in the beautiful grounds of Wentworth Woodhouse as part of Rotherham Hospice’s Butterfly Campaign.

The striking installation, which will be open to visitors from 4th to 19th July, has been created to offer people a special place to remember and celebrate loved ones. Visitors have the opportunity to dedicate a butterfly in memory of someone special before taking it home as a lasting keepsake at the end of the campaign. It promises to be a moving and meaningful experience while raising vital funds to support the outstanding care provided by Rotherham Hospice.

For our apprentices, this project has been about much more than manufacturing steel sculptures. Over the past few months, they have worked with dedication, precision and pride to produce every butterfly, applying the skills they have developed throughout their apprenticeship to create something that will have a lasting impact on the local community.

Watching the butterflies progress from raw Corten steel through to the completed installation has been incredibly rewarding. The finished Meadow of Memories is a powerful example of what can be achieved when engineering skills are used to support an important cause, and seeing the display installed at Wentworth Woodhouse has made all of the hard work worthwhile.

Projects like this provide invaluable experience for our apprentices, allowing them to work on a live community initiative while developing their technical abilities, teamwork and attention to detail. More importantly, they have had the opportunity to contribute to something that will bring comfort, reflection and hope to hundreds of families across the region.

We are immensely proud of every apprentice involved and would like to thank everyone who contributed their time, skill and enthusiasm to make this project such a success. We’d also like to thank Rotherham Hospice, Wentworth Woodhouse and everyone involved in bringing the Meadow of Memories to life.

We encourage anyone wishing to support this wonderful initiative to visit the installation and consider dedicating a butterfly in memory of a loved one. Every dedication helps raise vital funds for Rotherham Hospice while becoming part of a truly special tribute that will leave a lasting legacy long after the butterflies have found their forever homes.
