We have a number of exciting job vacancies here at MTL, and we are currently seeking to recruit dynamic and enthusiastic individuals for the following positions:

General Operative

Responsibilities:

  • Efficient unloading, handling and storage of internal material, e.g., steel, stainless steel, aluminium etc. to appropriate holding area
  • Ensuring correct storage inside with location of materials updated on computer
  • Sorting and feeding production with materials to production plans including assisting with maneuvering of materials on to and off the machines, either by crane or manually
  • Housekeeping – ensuring the cleanliness and tidiness of the Departments and Profile Compound are maintained to a high standard at all times to comply with Health and Safety standards
  • Maximise the uptime of the machines by delivering materials in a timely manner
  • Maintain accurate stock representation of the press racks
  • Ensure a Caterpillar Tier 4 stock count is carried out daily

Knowledge, skills & experience required: 

  • Fork Lift Truck – Counterbalance Licence – Side loader
  • Ability to work efficiently and build effective working relationshipsUnderstanding of company quality procedures and specific customer requirements
  • Overhead crane / slinging & lifting skills
  • Experience in a similar role/environment

Production Assistant

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring material is checked for size, thickness and grade, prior to cutting and to inform the operator of any quality concerns regarding the material
  • Ensure laser machines are supplied with the correct materials in a timely manner to ensure production schedules are met
  • Ensure ‘One offs’ are completed at all times
  • Ensure customer orders on produced On Time and In Full time to required quality standard
  • Marking up of cut parts, cleaning etc
  • Ensure all Safety / Rules / Standards are adhered to, ensuring correct Personal Protective Equipment is worn at all times
  • All machine and personal safety procedures to be followed at all times
  • Pass on all relevant information to the next shift, who are about to start work
  • Ensure the parts are routed correctly to the next part of the process in a timely manner
  • To adhere to all health and safety
  • Any other ad hoc duties

Knowledge, skills & experience required: 

  • Relevant machine experience
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation and additional MTL requirements
  • Understanding of company quality procedures and specific customer requirements
  • Ability to work effectively and use own initiative
  • Slinging and lifting crane experience

Laser Operator

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring material is checked for size, thickness and grade, prior to cutting and to inform the Team Leader of any quality concerns regarding the material
  • Ensure ‘One offs’ are completed at all times
  • Responsible for quality of components that have been cut on the machine and standard of fettling if required
  • Ensure customer orders on produced On Time and In Full time to required quality standard
  • Marking up of cut parts, cleaning and fettling parts
  • Ensure all Safety / Rules / Standards are adhered to, ensuring correct Personal Protective Equipment is worn at all times
  • All control cards and nestings are filled in correctly, taking note of any special instructions
  • All machine and personal safety procedures to be followed at all times
  • Pass on all relevant information to the next shift, who are about to start work
  • Ensure the parts are routed correctly to the next part of the process in a timely manner
  • To adhere to all health and safety
  • Any other ad hoc duties

Fabrication Team Leader

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the team’s overall performance in line with MTL’s Key Performance Indicator’s which       cover: Health, Safety and the Environment, Productivity, Efficiency, Quality and Delivery and cost
  • To attend the Daily Production meeting and update the shift KPI’s
  • To manage the teams effectively to produce customer orders ‘on time and in full’ by strictly adhering to the production schedule
  • Deliver the daily manufacturing plan through considered deployment of resources, documentation and quality requirements
  • Highlight training gaps where necessary and ensure your shift has the correct operator skill level to meet the manufacturing plan
  • Ensure the operators complete all production related documentation to include: Route & batch cards, time sheets, material checks, SPC and quality related paperwork
  • Work with other supervisors to ensure a robust shift handover system is followed
  • Through the escalation process, ensure all machine faults are communicated to the appropriate maintenance or management personnel
  • Contribute to and manage the process of continuous improvement with your team and your colleagues
  • Ensure that all internal audits are fully supported and carried out in a timely manner
  • To maintain a ‘no fault forward’ environment

Overall responsibility to ensure the workshops and all its facilities:

  • Are kept tidy and free from clutter at all times
  • That operators are fulfilling their duties correctly and effectively at all times
  • That racking systems are correctly utilised and boards filled in
  • That parts are flowing to the next process with the correct labeling procedures
  • That ‘Route Cards’ are being followed and signed off after each operation
  • That good communication exists between other department supervisors and that problems are addressed as a team
  • That daily meetings are attended/chaired and actioned

Knowledge, skills & experience required: 

  • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and additional MTL requirements
  • Understanding of company quality procedures and specific customer requirements
  • Ability to work effectively and use own initiative
  • Ability to lead and manage others to achieve desired results
  • Ability to communicate at all levels of the business
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Excel and work with the ability to generate reports and manipulate data for the purpose of analysis
  • Flexibility as this role will include shifts and some weekend work

Laser/Plasma Cutting Production Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Increase efficiency outputs of our extensive range of cutting machines
  • Increase efficiencies on our automatic loading systems
  • Create an inclusive and efficient workforce
  • To create plans which allow the teams to effectively produce customer’s orders ‘On time and In Full’ by strictly adhering to the production schedule
  • Ensure the team fully understands the plan in terms of resource deployment, documentation and quality requirements, and then drive the team to meet the plan
  • To ensure cost and time targets or either achieved or exceeded in line with estimates
  • Ensure Team Leaders monitor, support and direct operators to meet the shift objectives for time, cost and quality
  • Work with Team Leaders to ensure a robust shift handover system is followed
  • Ensure any machine maintenance faults and problems are reported fixed and repaired in the most expedient manor and at the right cost through the use of onsite maintenance engineers and or subcontract laser technicians
  • To eliminate variation by the implementation of standard processes, procedures and practices
  • Drive the team to ensure process controls are followed and adhered to at all times
  • To maintain a ‘No Fault Forward’ environment
  • Provide clear communications and performance report to senior management
  • Ensure the workshops are and all facilities are:
  • Kept tidy and free from clutter at all times
  • Operators are fulfilling their duties correctly and effectively at all times
  • That racking systems are correctly utilised and boards are filled in
  • Parts are flowing to the next process with correct labeling procedures
  • That good communication exists between other department team leaders and that problems are addressed as a team

Knowledge, skills & experience required: 

  • Supervisory/Management experience within a Laser Cutting environment
  • Experience in leading a production workforce to exceed targets

Laser Programmer

To generate nesting programmes for all our Trumpf and Bystronic laser cutting machines, to support ‘On Time and In Full’ for all MTL customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Create customer parts within the relevant programming software in an accurate and timely manner
  • Maximise sheet utilisation
  • Communicate with and support all internal customers
  • Maintain material stock levels and raise purchase orders
  • Expedite material deliveries
  • Provide cover as required within scheduling area
  • To adhere to all health and safety
  • Any other ad hoc duties

Knowledge, skills & experience required: 

Previous experience of programming laser and plasma cutting machines using Sigmanest and Trutops would be an advantage but not essential. Candidates must be proficient with using Microsoft Office. Good communication and organised skills are key for this role, as is the ability to work as part of a team.

Press Brake Operator

Responsibilities:

  • Operating press brake machine, ensuring it runs continuously to ensure maximum productivity
  • Producing orders on time and to the correct quality standard
  • Maneuvering of materials on to and off the press machines, either by crane or manually
  • Setting  up the machine by reading engineering drawings, programming, tooling changes
  • Making up of pressed parts and packing

Knowledge, skills & experience required: 

  • Must have previous experience operating a press brake machine
  • Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of different metals an advantage
  • Competent in the use of all forms of measuring equipment including verniers, rulers, angle measuring devices
  • Able to set and maintain a high standard of workmanship
  • Able to work pro-actively and as part of a team to improve productivity and efficiency

Shift rotation – 37.5 hours per week. Competitive rates of pay available.

Paint Shop Labourer

Responsibilities:

  • De-grease items before shot blasting procedure
  • Preparing parts ready for painting
  • Mixing Paint
  • Cleaning paint guns
  • Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment
  • Adherence to COSHH
  • Any other ad hoc duties as may be required within the production environment
  • To adhere to all health and safety

Knowledge, skills & experience required: 

  • Previous knowledge in similar environment advantageous
  • Be fully conversant in both written and verbal English
  • Able to read and understand engineering drawings and masking instructions

Shift rotation – 37.5 hours per week. Competitive rates of pay available.

Contract Engineer

You will be responsible for the planning, nesting and expedition of contracts, focusing on laser cutting, press braking and fabrication of mild and stainless steel materials. Your duties will include:

Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing customers’ order requirements against quotation and producing bill of materials from detailed engineering drawings
  • Creating 2D DXF cutting files and programming/nesting for laser and plasma cutting machines
  • Generating and issuing route cards and manufacturing drawings to both production and scheduling
  • Liasing with internal departments and customers to resolve queries and expedite progress

Knowledge, skills & experience required: 

  • Previous experience within a similar role, ideally with laser, thermal/waterjet cuttng, press braking or fabrication and welding processes
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD is essential
  • Strong working knowledge of SigmaNest or similar nesting package is essential
  • Knowledge of SigmaMRP or similar is advantageous although full training will be provided
  • Fully computer literate and fully proficient in Microsoft Office

Monday – Thursday 8am-5pm, Friday 8am-4pm (41.5 hours). Competitive rates of pay available.

Paint Sprayer

Working inside a spray bake facility, this role will be working as part of a team shot blasting metal parts that meet customer’s specifications. Duties include:

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing to work to extremely high standards
  • Stripping, fitting and re-building parts where necessary
  • Working to specific production schedules
  • Completing all administrative procedures relating to paint area
  • Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe working environment
  • Adhering to COSHH
  • Attending meetings as and when needed
  • Any other ad hoc duties as may be required within the production environment

Knowledge, skills & experience required: 

  • Previous experience of using an airless sprayer
  • Experience of using 2 pack paint is essential
  • Be fully conversant in both written and verbal English
  • Able to read and understand engineering drawings and masking instructions

Shift rotation – 37.5 hours per week. Competitive rates of pay available.

Temporary Plater/Welder

Responsibilities:

  • To review engineering drawings for parts to be fabricated/welded
  • Perform welding/plating activities
  • Ensure tolerances and parameters are met to satisfy quality and output
  • Ensure production timings are met/exceeded
  • Follow company rules and adhere to procedures and health & safety standards
  • Work as part of a team to produce orders on time and within customer expectation/quality requirements
  • Carry out and record daily/weekly/monthly maintenance and safety checks
  • Ensure correct marking up of component parts

Knowledge, skills & experience required: 

  • Welding and fabrication experience and qualifications
  • Must be coded to BS EN ISO9606-1 fillet and butt weld standard
  • Experienced in MIG and TIG welding with the ability to read engineering drawings
  • Ability to work effectively and use own inititative
  • Good communication at all levels
  • Knowledge of health & safety legislation

Shift rotation: Mon – Fri 6am-2pm, Mon – Thurs 10pm-6am, and Friday 2pm-10pm. Competitive rates of pay available.

Pre-Delivery Inspector

Responsibilities:

  • Pre-delivery inspection of piece parts for Caterpillar, as per customer standard
  • Pre-delivery inspection of piece parts for Dennis Eagle, as per customer standard
  • Work to a schedule to meet weekly delivery targets
  • Assist the Quality Assurance inspectors with dimensional inspection work as and when required
  • Attend root cause analysis meeting as and when required

Knowledge, skills & experience required: 

  • Knowledge of using basic measuring equipment (Vernier’s, Thread Gauges, Tapes and Rulers)
  • Computer literate
  • Basic understanding of Quality systems
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Lifting/slinging/magnet experience
  • Crane experience
  • Pedestrian stacker truck license

6am-2pm and 2pm-10pm. Competitive rates of pay available.

CNC Machinist

Key Objectives & Duties:

  • Operating machines to produce orders on time and to the correct quality standard
  • Ensure correct marking up of component parts and use of the labelling system
  • Work with Senior Manufacturing Engineer to determine feasibility of machining new products
  • Writing and providing programmes for all machines as required
  • Maintaining and control a current programmer register and tool inventory
  • Working with jigs and fixtures
  • Cleaning and maintaining machines as required

Knowledge & skills required: 

  • Must have previous experience setting and operating vertical machining centres using Fanuc Controls
  • Slinging and lifting crane experience is essential
  • Able to set and maintain a high standard of workmanship
  • Able to work pro-actively and as part of a team to improve productivity and efficiency
