What Our Apprentices Have Been Working On Recently

Our welding and fabrication apprentices in Rotherham have been hard at work on a range of practical projects that are now being used both internally and within the wider community.

One of the latest projects completed by the apprentices is a fabricated access platform that is now being used within the fabrication department at MTL Advanced. The platform has been designed to provide welders and fabricators with safe and easy access when working at height or reaching high points on larger fabrications. From measuring and cutting through to fabrication and assembly, the apprentices played a key role throughout the entire process, gaining valuable hands-on experience while producing a finished product that is now supporting day-to-day operations on the shop floor.

The apprentices have also recently completed the fabrication of a number of heavy-duty barriers for use around the workshop. Working as part of a team, the apprentices welded together the outer frame structure before fitting and welding the cross hatch panels into place. These barriers are now being used in various locations across the shop floor to help improve organisation and safety within the working environment. Projects like these give apprentices the opportunity to develop their welding accuracy, fabrication techniques and understanding of working to production standards.

Alongside their workshop projects, the apprentices have also been supporting the Rotherham Hospice Butterfly Campaign. They have been folding and welding decorative butterflies that will form part of the campaign launch in the coming weeks. So far, the team has nearly completed an incredible 2,000 butterflies, demonstrating not only their growing skillset but also their willingness to support an important local cause and give back to the community.

These projects highlight the wide variety of real-world experience our apprentices gain during their training, helping them build the practical skills and confidence needed for a successful career in engineering and manufacturing.

There are still places available if you’re looking for a welding and fabrication apprenticeship in Rotherham this September.
