WEC Group Apprentice of the Year Awards 2017

WEC Group apprentice awards

We celebrated the success and achievements of our apprentices at WEC Group’s annual Apprentice of the Year Awards on 30 November.

Held at Blackburn Rovers F.C., the awards ceremony recognised the success of the company’s welding/fabrication, CNC machining, technical production engineering and office-based apprentices.

Students were presented with awards based on their commitment and academic achievements as well as welding, machining and technical production engineering excellence. Those who have successfully completed the five year course were also awarded with certificates and cheques.

MTL Apprentice of the Year 2017 – Christina Bubb

Christina Bubb, a second year welding and fabrication apprentice at MTL, won the Apprentice of the Year 2017 title after being recognised for her natural talent for engineering and for winning Rotherham’s intermediate Apprentice of the Year Award earlier this year.

Kris Mercer, Training & Development Manager said: “Our apprentice of the year awards at Blackburn Rovers was once again a huge success. The event is always a testament to the amount of effort and commitment the students put into their work every day.

“Our apprentices are an exceptionally talented group of people of all ages, and it’s important that we continue to reward them for their hard work and talents.”

Further awards were presented based on the apprentices’ success at this year’s WorldSkills UK competition in Construction Metalwork, bringing home gold for the third year in a row as well as silver and Highly Commended.
